Is this the same as seeing a geriatrician?

Our doctors provide GP-level care with a geriatric interest. For specialist geriatric input, we can refer you to Dr Dilshan Ariyarathna, a visiting geriatrician who attends the facility from time to time.

How often will the doctor visit?

This depends on your health needs and the facility's requirements. Some residents are reviewed on a regular schedule, others are seen as needed. We can discuss what's right for you when you book.

Can a family member arrange a visit on behalf of a resident?

Yes. Call reception and we'll coordinate directly with the facility.

What if I need to cancel?

Please give at least 12 hours notice. A late cancellation may incur the standard $44 GP fee.

Can the doctors help with an Advance Care Directive?

Yes, ask at your visit or when you call to book.

Nursing Home Visits

If you're an existing patient who has moved into a residential aged care facility, or a new resident in the Drouin, Warragul, or wider West Gippsland area, our doctors can continue your care with regular visits to the facility. House calls are also available for patients too unwell to attend the practice in person.

Nursing home visits are currently provided by Dr Sai Andey, Dr Anil Simhadri, and Dr Divya Kachhela.

Visits are a team effort. Alongside the doctors, our practice nurse, Tahiad Hossain, conducts health assessments as part of the visit.

Visits include comprehensive medical assessments, vaccinations, lung function tests, ECG, Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) testing, other office-based tests, and family meetings where needed.

Medication reviews are coordinated with facility nursing staff and your pharmacist, alongside any specialists involved in your care.

For residents who need specialist geriatric input, our doctors can refer to Dr Dilshan Ariyarathna, a visiting geriatrician, who sees residents at the facility from time to time.

Our doctors can also help with Advance Care Directives, formal documents that record your wishes for future medical care. More information is available from the Australian Government Department of Health.

Visits to a residential aged care facility are bulk billed under Medicare for patients with a valid Medicare card. There's usually no out-of-pocket cost.
